Riser, 90 of Covington, passed away peacefully, Saturday, August 24, 2024, surrounded by her family, after a life filled with love and devotion. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rosalie Van Brunt. Also, her son, Scott Riser. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She was married for 73 wonderful years to the love of her life, Bob, with whom she shared countless memories and adventures. Shirley was a dedicated member of Gum Creek Presbyterian Church in Oxford, where her faith and community were central to her life. She found great joy in simple pleasures, including sewing, crocheting and knitting, often crafting beautiful pieces for her loved ones. An avid reader, Shirley spent many hours lost in the pages of her favorite books. Her greatest pride and joy, however, came from her family. Shirley was a constant and enthusiastic supporter of her children and grandchildren, never missing a game or event. Her presence at these events will be dearly missed. Shirley also had a passion for travel, exploring new places, and making memories with her family. Her adventurous spirit and love for life were evident to all who knew her. Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family. She will be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert (Bob) Riser of Covington; daughters and son-in-law, Peggy and Chip Buckheister of Newberry, SC, Carol Compton of Covington; son and daughters-in-law, Steve and Pat Riser of Lawrenceville, Jenny Jones of Danielsville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Gathering of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Becky Baker officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 27, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
