Oscar "Harold" Musgrove

Oscar Harold Musgrove 90, of Conyers passed away peacefully at Emory University Hospital on Saturday, June 11, 2022. He was born in Newton, Georgia to the late Elias and Mattie Lee (Irvin) Musgrove. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Elma Nobles Musgrove, his son Phillip Musgrove and twelve siblings: Christine, Marzine, O'Neal, Kathleen, Janie, Clinton, twin brother Harry, Betty, Ann, Earl, Benjamin, and Johnny. Harold leaves behind his daughter Sheila Lynch, his granddaughter Amber Lynch, his grandsons Jacob and Joshua Musgrove, his twin great-granddaughters Gracie and Lacie Lynch, his sister Geraldine Peters and many other loving family members. Harold was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and a wonderful friend to many. He was a member and Deacon at Zion Baptist Church in Covington, Ga. He was a devoted Christian and worked with many Ministries including the Disaster Relief Program, Bold Mission Builders, Brotherhood Ministries, and Newton County Jail Ministry for over 30 years. Harold was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge, belonging to the Dougherty Lodge #591 in Albany, GA. He proudly served as a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Army for 12 years during the Cuban Crisis. After serving, he went to work for John Deere, retiring after 33 ½ years and was a member of the DeereLicts. Harold had a passion for farming and ran the family farm that he had worked on since he was a child, until he was 80. He was nicknamed “The Peanut Man,” but was simply called “Papa'' by those that knew him best. Harold coached 3 generations of his family in soccer at RYSA for more than 20 years, and coached the youth softball team at Zion where he also played for the adult team until he was 79 years old. He loved animals, especially his beloved dog, Karma, whose favorite person, without a doubt, was “Papa.” He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and driving a tractor, from riding the grandkids & great-grandkids, nieces and nephews around the yard while cutting grass to “down home” on the dirt roads and farm. John Deere tractors were his passion. Harold dedicated himself to helping others, was greatly loved by all who knew him and will be missed tremendously. His service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11am and the family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 10am-11am at Zion Baptist Church located at 7037 Ga Hwy 212 in Covington, GA with Pastors Malcolm Parker, Timothy McNarry and Joel Brown officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 6pm-8pm at Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services 11405 Brown Bridge Rd Covington, GA.
