Betty Z. Edwards

Betty Zane Hopkins Edwards of Covington passed away Friday, July 31, 2020 at Abbey Hospice of Social Circle at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Wallace Eugene (Happy) Edwards, Sr.; parents, James F. and Fannie Hopkins; brothers, James Hopkins and George Hopkins and sister, Francis Bledsoe. Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Covington. Betty worked 20 years with Newton County Hospital as a CNA and later at Newton County High School Cafeteria. She enjoyed working word puzzles, taking trips with friends and spending time with her family. You would always hear Betty say, “I love you.” Betty is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Wallace and Susan Edwards, Jr. of Newborn; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Charlie Allen of Covington, Claudia and Kenneth Hall of Covington; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Britt Allen, Leslie Hall, Olivia and Keith Adams, Amanda and Marcus Guy, Georgia and John Hill, Joel and Brittney Edwards; 12 great-grandchildren Abbigail, Maddilyn, Sam, Kate, Blake, Gabe, Cooper, Cayden, Jake, Luke, Worth and Wyatt; and great-great granddaughter Blakely. Also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Bobby and JoAnn Hopkins of Covington and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Graveside Service will be held 11am Monday, August 3, 2020 at Lawnwood Cemetery, 1217 Access Road, Covington, with Reverend Len Strozier officiating.
