Carol Ann McGiboney

Carol Ann McGiboney of Covington gained her wings on August 5, 2023 at Piedmont Hospital. She was 60 years young. She was born and raised in Covington by Sandra and Fred Hopkins. Carol Ann was a top 10 graduate of Newton County Highschool. In 1981 she married her husband Tony McGiboney of 42 years during her senior year and never looked back. Shortly after graduation and marriage she began her lifelong journey of motherhood. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband Tony, and her children TJ, Tonya, and Travis (Amanda) of Covington. She had 5 grandchildren that she loved beyond measure, Aidan McGiboney, Eva McGiboney, Brooklynn Amerson, Zion Cook, and Cade McGiboney. She was also a loving sister to her surviving brother Quinn Hopkins of Smryna, and sister-in-law to Debra McGiboney Griffith (Rich) of Jacksonville, FL. Carol Ann lived for her grandbabies and never missed a beat when it came to them. She would go to every ball game, every school play, every birthday party, or just visit every chance she got. She enjoyed many hobbies. She loved to craft and paint and loved to make all her children and grandchildren handmade gifts. She would decorate her house for every holiday no matter how insignificant it was. One of her favorite holidays being Christmas and being able to ride around looking at Christmas lights. Carol Ann loved going out to dinner at the drop of a hat. She was also an avid sports fan. Carol Ann loved the Braves, Falcons, and of course the Ga Bulldogs. She would never miss a game and spent time yelling or clapping at the TV whether she was at home watching or at a restaurant. One of her other loves was to travel. The beach was her favorite place. She would do anything to have her toes in the sand or neck deep in the ocean. Carol Ann enjoyed having a close knit family. There was not a day that went by that she did not talk on the phone to all 3 of her children at least once, sometimes 3 or 4 times. The family would dine at least once a week. She loved to go shopping together as well as getting manicures and pedicures. On top of being a devoted wife and mother, she was a dedicated employee of Porterdale Elementary School for 28 years starting her tenure as a paraprofessional and retired as the bookkeeper. She touched countless lives including teachers, students, and other staff members. Everyone always remembers Carol Ann’s smile and the sparkle in her eyes. Not to mention her patience, calm demeanor, and sweet nature. A memorial service will be held August 15, 2023, at Love Joy United Methodist Church (12835 Hwy 36, Covington 30014) with Pastor Gil Gainer officiating. Visitation will be from 4pm-5pm and service to follow. Friends may send flowers to the church or donations to be made to Love Joy United Methodist Church in her honor.
