Donald Hugh Campbell

Don was born in McComb, MS, on April 4, 1949. He grew up in McComb and moved to San Diego, CA, with his mother in the mid 1960’s after the death of his father. He graduated from Sweetwater Union High School, National City, CA in 1968. Don enlisted in the U.S. Army on June 27, 1969. He was assigned to the 15th Military Police Brigade and served in Germany for 2 years, during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from Active Duty on June 26, 1971 and transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve. After military service Don enrolled in Southwestern College, Chula Vista, CA and was awarded an Associate Degree in Accounting in June 1973. He went on to earn a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. Don worked for the Department of the Army for over 17 years while serving in the Army Reserve. On November 6, 1982 Don married Joan Eichorst. Don and Joan have one daughter, Michelle and a grand-daughter Hailey. Don was called back to Active Duty in 1990 for the Gulf Conflict, Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was honorably retired from the U.S. Army on June 26, 1994. During his military career he was honored with numerous awards, medals and commendations. Don was an avid hunter and target shooter. He loved being outdoors in nature. He also loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was an avid reader and history buff. He studied the Bible from a very young age and throughout his life, which was part of his heritage since he descended from a long line of ministers. Don was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gloster, MS., and donated much of his time to the communities in which he lived. Don passed from this world on August 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Tera Campbell, brothers Roger and Joe and a sister, Doris. In addition to his wife, daughter and granddaughter, Don is survived by a favorite niece, Pam Stone, sister-in-law Naomi Campbell and many cousins who reside in Mississippi, Louisiana, and sister, Yvonne. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 12 at 11am at the Gloster Nazarene Church, 481 East Walnut Street, Gloster, MS. Don’s grandniece Tori Stone will officiate the service.
