Jack was born in Moultrie, GA, to the late Chester Shelby Taylor, Sr. and Mary (Blackey) Taylor. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Green, Elizabeth (Liz) Taylor, and Karen Taylor Thompson, as well as his brothers, Chester Taylor, Jr., and Kenneth Taylor. Jack served his country with honor in the United States Air Force for eight years, including a deployment to Korea during the Vietnam War. His sense of duty and patriotism was evident in all aspects of his life. Above all else, Jack's children were the light and center of his world. He cherished every moment spent with them and took immense pride in their accomplishments. A man of many passions, Jack had a deep love for sports. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, and later in life, he could often be found fishing or watching his favorite teams play. Whether it was football, baseball—especially the Atlanta Braves—or rooting for Georgia Tech, Jack's enthusiasm for the game was contagious. He enjoyed any team his sons watched. He also had a love for playing softball, sharing his joy for the sport with those around him. Jack will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and devotion to family and country. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he left behind, his loving wife of 51 years, Janice Taylor of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law, Christopher Taylor of Covington, Gabriel and Ashley Taylor of Covington; grandsons, Christian Taylor, Brycen Taylor and Deagan-Ray Taylor; sisters, Katrina Weeks of Norman Park, GA, Jean Barton of Hopkinsville, KY, Brenda Matthews of Sylvester, GA; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 25, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Eddie Frazier officiating.
