Mrs. Gertrude Irene Buck

Buck, Gertrude Irene, "Trudy", 91 passed away peacefully, September 26, 2015 at the home of her daughter, Gertrude Maness in Covington, Georgia. Gertrude was born in the Bronx borough of New York City on March 11, 1924, to Ida Marie (Koehler) and Walter Jacob Meyer. They were both of German descent. She was their only child. She loved growing up in the city. She often spoke of the library, matinees, her school, swimming and music. She was an avid swimmer and placed in competitions. As a young woman, she worked for the telephone company. When WWII occurred, while working at the phone company, she volunteered at St. Francis hospital as an aid. After leaving the phone company, she worked in a music store and was still continuously studying music. She sang for weddings, German clubs and in Radio City Hall. She was fluent and sang in several languages. She married Clemens Buck on November 17, 1946. They had 2 children while living in New York City. In 1951, they moved to Honesdale, Pennsylvania, where they owned a dairy farm. The family got bigger, two more children were born. They moved from Pennsylvania to Athens, New York in 1963, where she became a realtor. They purchased a Mom and Pop grocery store and meat market in Malta, New York, in Saratoga county. In 1972, they moved to Lake Placid, Florida to retire. She worked in realty again, taught as a substitute teacher at the local high school and for the farm extension bureau. They relocated to Hardee County in 1974 and lived there until 2003 moving to Sebring, Florida. The last move, in 2005, was to Atlanta area in Georgia. She loved traveling, reading, sewing and needlework, word puzzles and board games. She loved and had a flair for flipping property in her realtor profession. Although she did not pursue concert singing, there was always opera and musicals playing at home. Clem and Trudy were known at several local communities for polka dancing. She was preceded in death by her husband Clemens Buck in 2009. She is survived by her four children: Gertrude Maness of Covington, GA., Peter Buck of Stillwater, New York, Sylvia Clemons of Sebring, Florida and Clemens Buck of Castleton on the Hudson, New York; 11 grand children; Albert Maness, Christina English, Gertrude Bryant, Adam Maness, Clemens Wells, Whitney Wells, Alexandra Buck, Maximillian Buck, Julia Buck, Sarah Buck and Peter Buck, Jr.; and 4 great grandsons: Brody and Jayce English, and Emerson and Mason Bryant. A memorial graveside celebration is planned for November 28, 2015 at 12pm at Bowling Green Cemetery in Bowling Green, Florida. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Clemens Buck and her parents Walter and Ida Meyer.
