Lena Mae (Jordan) Smith

Lena Mae (Jordan) Smith was born June 15, 1941 in Joiner, AR to Arthur and Rosie Jordan. She was the sixth of 11 children. She began her formal education at Shawnee Elementary School in Joiner, AR and Wilson Trade School in Wilson, AR. Lena later attended her last years of education at William R. Golden High School in Turrell, AR where she graduated in 1961. Later that year, Lena relocated to Los Angeles, where she married Will Charles Smith in 1967 and began her family, consisting of her beloved children, Bryan Smith and Chanda (Smith) Mabry. In 1968, the family moved to La Puente. She later began her 43- year career with the United States General Services Administration (GSA). Praised for her dedication and leadership, Lena was frequently recognized for many achievements. Each year, she received accolades for efficiency, resulting in her rise from entry level positions to management roles over the years. She was admired by many as a trailblazer who influenced others to do and be their best in their careers. After her hard work and contributions, she retired from GSA in 2009. In 2009, she was victorious in her major health challenge after her first heart procedure. She overcame each wellness development with optimism and determination as her journey continued for some years. From that time on, she lived life to the fullest, which included holidays and travel with family and friends to share her most memorable and precious moments. She also shared a strong bond with her much-loved siblings who enjoyed many fun and wonderful times together. Lena remained in her La Puente home until 2010. That year, she purchased her home in Lancaster, CA, where she lived until 2018. In 2019, she relocated to Covington, GA to live with her daughter, Chanda and grandson, Jordan. They lived happily in their love-filled home until Friday, September 29, when she was called by The Lord to rest in grace and peace. An avid reader and historian, Lena most enjoyed engaging in deep conversations about various topics and politics. Ever self-reliant, she took care of many things herself, including some of the most difficult home improvement projects. She had a passion for gardening and enjoyed being in the fresh air, feeling the soil and nurturing plants that needed care. Her many hobbies also included writing, keeping up with current events, playing bingo and other games of chance. She entertained herself watching westerns and game shows. A music lover, she was most delighted by gospel and blues, and songs from her favorite group, The OJays. A loving mother and grandmother, Lena is survived by daughter, Chanda and grandson, Jordan. Lena is preceded in death by her son, Bryan, grandson Amani Clemons, her parents Rosie and Arthur, brothers Arthur Jr., James, Isaac, James ÒBig BoyÓ Jordan, and sisters Queen Ester Mason, Frankie Maxwell, and Vernice Brown. She is survived by brothers James and John Jordan, and sisters Bobbie Love, Armentria Golliday and Shirley Dubose.
