Martha F. Pickens Halcome

Martha F. Pickens Halcome, 91, of Oxford, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2020 at her home. She was born in Lithonia, GA to the late Joseph and Farris Anderson Mitchell. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Marvin Carl Pickens, second husband Ed Halcome, and 4 sisters, Lillie, Sally, Nell and Catherine. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children and their spouses, Gloria Young (Dwain), Donald Pickens, Pat Nolan (Ed), Karen Robinson (Ray), Michael Pickens (Teresa); 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys Clark (Jack) and Bessie Sparatt (Jerry); and many nieces and nephews. Martha was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Me Maw, sister and a friend to many. She and her husband, Ed, were founders of Gospel Mission Church and members for over 20 years. Martha was known to speak in parables at many Christian events and she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was a people person, loved cooking, puzzles, her smartphone and tablet and the Atlanta Braves. She especially loved and enjoyed spending time with her family. Most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a special person who led many people to the Lord. Martha left a mark on all those who came in contact with her and she will be forever missed. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020 at 11 am in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Wayne Whitley and Rev. Richard Culpepper officiating. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 1147 Panola Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30088. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:00 am until 11:00 am.
