Melvin N Ivey

Melvin N. Ivey, 87, of Covington, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Pruitt Healthcare of Covington. Born in Porterdale, Georgia, he was the son of the late Reber and Tinie (Cagle) Ivey. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his sister, Elsie Smith. Melvin was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished granddaddy, and a friend to all who knew him. He lived his life to the fullest, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and joy. A true outdoorsman, Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, cruising, exploring the mountains, riding dune buggies, and camping. He found peace in nature and loved sharing these experiences with his family. A man of faith, Melvin was a dedicated member of Prospect Church at Oak Hill for more than 65 years. He served his community and his church with a kind heart and a strong spirit. Melvin also proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard, and as a volunteer at Salem Volunteer Fire Department, demonstrating his commitment to both his country and his community. Above all, Melvin’s greatest love was his family and his Lord. His legacy will live on through his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a lasting impression of love, joy, and a life well-lived. He will be dearly missed, but his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him; his wife of 67 years, Irene Ivey; his children Yvonne (Andy) Cobb, Raymond (Wanda) Ivey, Clay (Johnnie) Ivey; grandchildren Amanda, Kimberly (Shane), Ray (Dawn), Daniel (Kayla), Astrine (Jesse), Crystal, Hope; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother Freddie (Maxine) Ivey; and a slue of family and friends. A celebration of Melvin's life will be held at Prospect Church at Oak Hill Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 11 am with Ron Compton and David Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services, Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 6pm – 8pm.
