Meriam Elizabeth Wood

Meriam Elizabeth Wood born October 27, 1932 passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Meriam dedicated her life to serving her Savior, her family, and others. She is a long-time member of Zion Baptist Church, Covington, GA where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and worked in various children’s ministries. Meriam graduated in the class of 1951 from Brown High School in Atlanta, GA. Meriam was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Pellie Wise of Atlanta, GA, her siblings, Gene Wise of Tucker, GA; Floyd Wise of Jackson, MS; Wyolene Richardson of Tucker, GA; and Robert Wise of Tucker, GA. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Don Wood, as well as her children, Donna (Doug) Hoffman of Gainesville, GA; Darrell Wood of Conyers, GA; and Kim (Roger) Wilkinson of Evans, GA. Also surviving are her siblings, Mary Hellen Burdett of Dacula, GA, and Calvin Wise of Newnan, GA; along with her sisters-in-law Brenda Wise of Tucker, GA and Audrey Wise of Jackson, MS. She was known as Mema to her six grandchildren, Josh (July) Stamey, Kayla, Garrett, Kyle, and Alaina Wilkinson, and Jenni-Rose Hoffman, as well as her great-granddaughter, Kiernan Stamey. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Meriam was known for her sweet spirit and the manner in which she handled life’s obstacles with grace. She always put others before herself and encouraged many people with her hand-written cards throughout the years. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was always encouraging them through her words, her presence, and her example of a Christ-centered marriage and life. Services will be held at Zion Baptist Church on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 11AM with Rev. Reese Sanders and Dr. Lane Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral Home Thursday, January 4, 2017 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
