Miriam Green Leacock

From Friendship in Brown's Town, St.Anns Jamaica, Miriam was the 5th of 9 children born to Felix and Blanch Love green. As a child, Miriam attended Lime Tree Garden Primary School followed by Brown's Town Secondary School. She attended Brown's Town Tabernacle Church, where she was baptized at an early age. After Secondary School, Miriam moved to Kingston, finding employment at Oxford Pharmacy. Later, life afforded Miriam and her daughter Nadine, the opportunity to immigrate into the United States, beginning a new chapter in her life. Soon after arrival, Miriam received a job as a cafeteria worker at Woolworth on 23rd street. It is there that she worked her way to cafeteria manager. During these years, Miriam met Leroy, her soon to be husband, at a party her sister Estherleen, had invited her to in February 1991, two years after the birth of their child Ziggy, Miriam and Leroy were married and remained so till death. Shortly after marriage, Miriam and Leroy moved to a new home in the South Bronx. It was here Miriam lived and started her own child daycare, after Woolworth went out of business some years later. Running the daycare made Miriam a vital part of many children and young parents lives. Many who have remained friends to this day, lasting relationships having been formed. After viewing homes close to her daughter Nadine, Miriam and Leroy decided to purchase a 2nd home in Covington, GA in 2008. The plan to settle a place of retirement had begun. Miriam lived in Covington taking work at local Walmart while Leroy worked his last few years to retirement in New York. Unfortunately, Leroy fell ill with Amyloidosis and passed away in September of 2012. Though she lost her spouse, the collective presence of her two children and two granddaughters brought her continued joy. Miriam was a woman with an infectious personality and humor. She could command a room in the presence of those she loved. She had an ability to maintain and arrange communication between family and friends. A strong woman, Miriam had the discipline necessary to survive and be successful. She was a devoted wife and partner, building with Leroy over two decades. She cared deeply for her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Miriam enjoyed shopping, especially QVC and Ross. Gardening in her spare time and keeping up with family and friends on social media. She will be remembered for her contagious smile and warmth. She was funny and full of joy, outgoing, a real go-getter, responsible, genuine, passionate, and a no nonsense person. Miriam leaves behind her children: Nadine and Ziggy, step daughters: Enicka and Asha, grandchildren: Tejai, Kayla and Quincy, siblings: Hyacinth, Estherleen, Samuel, Alma, Evans, and Phillip. Mother-in-law: Elsa. A host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and countless friends whom she loved dearly. Miriam will not be forgotten as she takes her rightful place in her new home. May her soul rest in heavenly peace! Funeral services for Miriam will be held Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, March 17, 2017 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
