Ralph M. Dobbins Jr.

Ralph McDonald Dobbins, Jr., 94, of Rutledge, Georgia, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of December 28, 2024. He was born in Orlando, Florida, to the late Ralph and Mable Dobbins. Ralph was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly June Dobbins. Ralph proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1950 to 1956, where he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant and was attached to the Engineer Aviation Battalion. During his service, he trained to build airstrips, primarily in the Pacific theater. After his military service, Ralph devoted his life to the building industry, beginning his career as Assistant Manager at Patillo Lumber Co. He later worked with Joe Carroll Associates in condominium building before founding Cornerstone Builders, where he specialized in building homes throughout DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. The home he built in Rutledge for his retirement was a true labor of love and remains his pride and joy. In his earlier years, Ralph was passionate about baseball. He played in the minor leagues with the Vidalia Lions Twins from 1948 to 1950, and also spent time with the Milwaukee Braves Farm Team. His love for the game never waned, and he remained a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, even getting the opportunity to visit the new Braves stadium last year. Outside of baseball, Ralph was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing throughout his life, never missing a major tournament on television. Ralph is survived by his children and their spouses: daughter, Kathy Dobbins of Peachtree Corners, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Audrey Dobbins of Oxford, GA, and Reid and Kim Dobbins of Monroe, GA; grandchildren and their spouses, Kyle (Sarah), Kelsey, Kody (Hannah Jo), Matthew, Karissa, Aspen, and Keenan Dobbins; as well as a great-grandson, Liam Dobbins, with another great-grandson on the way. A funeral service will be held in Ralph's honor on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services, with Rev. Wayne Ghann officiating. Interment will follow at Union Grove Church Cemetery, 2851 Union Grove Road, Conyers, GA 30012. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on the day of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to a charity of choice.
