Housworth, Jr., of Covington, left this world peacefully and awoke in the Lord’s presence on December 30, 2022 at the age of 81. He will be greatly missed and will always hold a special place in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his father R.L. Housworth, Sr., and his mother, Gladys Stubbs, as well as granddaughter Allison Grace Tomlin. Robert was a 1960 graduate of Newton County High School, served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1966 to 1969. He began his professional career at Lithonia Lighting in Conyers, Georgia, and finished his career as transportation manager at Springs Industries in Griffin, Georgia, retiring in 2003. Robert enjoyed Nascar racing, classic automobiles, photography, singing, traveling, and had a strong love for animals. He greatly loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved his country, proudly wore his Veteran’s hat, and with his great sense of humor, could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He was most recently a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point. For most of his adult life, Robert was involved in various church ministries including music and kids clubs and was honored to serve as a deacon. He leaves behind his loving wife, Brenda Chambers Housworth, of 58 years and sister Evelyn Plott, step-sister Mona Smith (Cecil), and brother George Housworth (Marie). He also leaves behind his daughter, Rhonda Housworth Tomlin (Robert), and son, Rob Housworth (Melanie). Grandchildren include Evan Tomlin (Cristen), Austin Tomlin, Megan Batten (Cody), Laurel Housworth, Cameron Tomlin (Harley), Ashley Housworth, Logan Tomlin, Reagan Tomlin, Shelby Housworth, Kathryn Tomlin. Nephews are Donnie Compton (Jane), Tony Compton (Linda) and Ronnie Compton (Jo Ann) and their families, and several nieces and cousins. Pets include his Husky-Shepherd mix, Alli, and Clyde, the spoiled rotten cat. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Robert "Bobby" Tomlin and Pastor Myron McIntyre officiating. The family will receive friends at the Chapel one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 2:30 pm.
