Ruby Jo Ann Eskew

Ruby JoAnn Eskew (nee: Smith) of Tucker passed away February 6, 2013. Ruby was born on June 19, 1948 in Atlanta to the late Walter Dewey “Dub” Smith & Mildred Felice Smith (nee: Kennedy). Ruby was best known for her loving and gentle nature; nevertheless it was tempered with steely determination. As a single Mother she often worked two jobs while successfully rearing her loving children. At a time when it was rare for women to hold positions of leadership in the international automotive parts industry, she successfully rose to positions of leadership with several companies; leading the way in a male dominated business environment for other women to follow. Anyone who knew Ruby also knew that any child she came across instantly fell in love with her; therefore after 30 successful years in marketing & Sales she retired and embarked on a new path involving her heart felt love for children. This included many years as the nanny for Miss Evan Hicks, one of her best friends Granddaughter and later as an assistant preschool educator. Her faith as a Christian was strong, she never met anyone she didn't come to love or who didn't love her; she always had a kind word for everyone. Ruby is survived by her loving and devoted daughters Tracie (Rocky Bennett) of Tucker, Toni (Jerry Kelly) of Stone Mountain; beloved grandchildren Brittany Fischer of Tucker, Christopher Alva of Bethlehem; loving siblings Sue (Bruce Brantley) of Lawrenceville, Nancy (Sam Kenney) of Stockbridge, Joy (Jim Nesbit) of Norcross, Dennis Smith (Joyce) of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, and many loving Nieces, Nephews, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. She was preceded in death by her long time significant partner Carson Asbury of Jacksboro, Tennessee; Brother James D. Smith “Sonny” (Sheila) of Lakeland, Florida; Nephews James D. Smith Jr. “Jimmy”, and Tyler Wade Beavers. Memorial Service will be Saturday, February 16th, 12:00 pm at Eastminster Presbyterian Church (5801 Hugh Howell Rd) Stone Mountain. A reception will be held at the church following the service in the fellowship hall.
