Sherman Ray Estes

Sherman Ray Estes, age 61, passed away Sunday, November 22nd, 2020 in Shelby Township, MI. He was born in Harbor City, CA to his late parents, John Wesley and Rosemary Estes. Also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Harriett Easley and nephew, John Estes. Sherman and his family traveled from California as a young boy following Pastor Donald Abernathy to build a church called “New Life Assembly” which was located on Elam Road in Stone Mountain, GA. Sherman had a list of things he enjoyed. First, he loved shopping more than anyone in the world. It didn’t matter who you were, he was always ready. Second, he loved playing music. Music gave him a way to relax and express himself, whether it was at church, his home or any place that had a piano. Sherman knew how to enjoy life. Third, maybe, was hunting, not that Sherman would do much himself but enjoyed being with the people he went with. Fourth, would be cars. Last might be traveling. He loved the time he went to Israel. That trip was one of his greatest trips ever. Besides Israel, Sherman always enjoyed going to the mountains, especially with family and friends. Those who really knew Sherman, knew he was always on the go, seeing different places, because he never liked sitting around. Sherman had one of the biggest hearts that God could have ever given a person. He was always helping someone out that was in need, but never wanted anyone to know. That was the type of person Sherman was, and will be forever remembered as. He placed other’s needs above his own. He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him especially his family. Sherman is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Johnene and Floyd Shorter of Covington, Penny Estes of Blue Ridge, Paul and Sherry Estes of Winterville, Joseph Estes of Ohio and Susan and Kurt Ziesman of Stewart, FL; nieces and nephews, Connie, Mable, Lincoln, Sharon, Amy, Starla, Guy, Scott, Carlia, Duane, Matthew, Jonathan, Crystal, JoAnna, Courtney, Savannah and Kinsley; several great nieces, nephews and cousins; host of many friends. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 24th, 2021 at 5:30 PM at Higher Praise Tabernacle in Covington. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the Celebration Service.
